Ford is recalling 47,587 trucks because of a software glitch that may hide the rearview camera image. The following vehicles are affected:
- 2021-2023 Ford F-150
- 2023-2026 Ford F-250
In a report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford said, affected vehicles are equipped with software that, in certain conditions, may “display the camera view menu over the rearview image in Reverse.”
When the rearview camera feed is blocked while in reverse, it may obstruct the view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of an accident. Ford said if the camera view menu stays open on the screen and the driver shifts into reverse, “the menu overlay does not auto-dismiss.” Meaning the obstructed image “will remain on until either (a) the user selects a view or closes the menu, or (b) the vehicle is shifted to Drive and speed exceeds 5 mph.”
The company is not aware of any reported injuries or accidents due to this issue. A software update should resolve the problem. Owners can have the update installed at a Ford or Lincoln dealer or receive it as an over-the-air (OTA) update, at no cost.
Ford expects to mail letters notifying owners of the safety risk on Aug. 17. A second round of letters will follow once the remedy is available, which Ford anticipates in September 2026.
