Surprisingly Good Driving Dynamics
The aging 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer doesn’t break any ground in the compact sedan segment, but it does offer a sportier driving experience and all-wheel-drive capability that stands out in its largely front-wheel-drive, economy-first class. While Mitsubishi has moved away from the hardcore sport compact car market, this compact sedan will still give the driver a little more performance for their money. The Mitsubishi Lancer is short on interior refinement and its resale values lag the category average, but an impressive 5-year/60,000-mile warranty and 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty help provide long-term peace of mind. For 2017, the front-drive-only Lancer GT is gone, and for the three trim levels that remain, there is more available standard and optional equipment.
Driving It
"The Mitsubishi Lancer has always been on the sportier side compared to more well-known competitors like the Toyota Corolla and Nissan Sentra, and that remains true. While the base 2.0-liter engine is rather anemic, the more recommendable 168-horsepower 2.4-liter moves the Lancer better than expected." Find out more in our 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer review.
Build and Price
The 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer lineup has a starting sticker price of under $19,000 with destination, while a Lancer SEL can top $27,000. But those are sticker prices. Build and price your own 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer to unlock this week’s Fair Purchase Price, 5-Year Cost to Own and more.
All Wheel Control
While Subaru is known for cornering the market on all-wheel-drive cars, there is another choice: the Lancer is also available with AWD. The Lancer’s All Wheel Control system comes standard on all Lancers except on the base ES with the 2.0-liter engine.
Owners’ Opinions
KBB.com reader and Lancer owner theravine owned a Lancer, then replaced it with another Mitsubishi: "This was a very reliable car during the 2 years we owned it. IT had plenty of power and the 4 wheel drive never let us down. Fun to drive. The interior was very basic. nothing special. A lot of plastic. There are many other vehicles out there with more attractive interiors at this price point. But Mitsubishi vehicles are great value super reliable. We bought another Mitsubishi. Love em."
