Mclaren Automotive used the introduction of its new 570GT model at the Geneva Auto Show to announce a 6-year “Track22” business plan intended to explore new avenues of advanced hybrid power as well as a possible pure electric vehicle. The wide-ranging Track22 effort involves a $1.4 billion investment between now and 2022 that McLaren Automotive CEO Mike Flewitt notes will see the firm launch 15 all-new cars or derivatives within the existing Sports Series, Super Series and Ultimate Series families as well as develop an all-new engine architecture.

“Our next hybrid vehicle will launch towards the latter part of our 6-year plan, and we will see at least 50 percent featuring hybrid technology by 2022. Hybridization has obvious CO2 and fuel consumption advantages but for us, it is all about delivering the performance and enjoyment of a McLaren,” Flewitt said. “But we won’t stop there. Our engineers have even started work on a one-off prototype to evaluate the possible benefits of a fully-electric powertrain in an Ultimate Series car; such is the pace of development.”
