Mazda announced that the star of its display at theTokyo Motor Show will be a new, still-unnamed Sports Car Concept. Offering this teaser image, the car clearly a sleek coupe echoing the rotary-powered RX-7 last produced in 2002. Mazda promises the car "maintains a sense of lineage and authenticity," in a way that "condenses its entire history of sports car development into a single model." While rotary engines have not been seen in any Mazda production model since the RX-8 was mustered out of the lineup in 2011, the automaker is known to be developing more advanced versions of the powerplant and rumors continue to circulate that one might find its way under the hood of this mystery one off. We’ll know all in late October.
