Jaguar and Land Rover are recalling 23,677 mild-hybrid electric vehicles that may experience current overload and malfunction of the DCDC converter. A software bug can also cause the DCDC converter to stop functioning.

Failure of the converter results in a loss of 12-volt system charging. A red warning reading “Stop Safely Electrical Fault Detected” will also appear. Ignoring this warning and continuing to drive will result in the loss of motive power and exterior lighting. Other warnings will appear up until the car loses power, according to the recall filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The following models are affected:

  • 2021-2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar
  • 2019-2024 Land Rover Range Rover Sport
  • 2020-2024 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
  • 2020-2024 Land Rover Range Rover
  • 2021-2024 Jaguar F-Pace
  • 2021-2024 Jaguar E-Pace
  • 2020-2024 Land Rover Discovery Sport
  • 2021-2024 Land Rover Discovery
  • 2020-2024 Land Rover Defender

There have been no reported accidents, injuries, or fires as a result of this defect in the U.S.

Vehicles will have their software updated to address the issue. A “limp home” mode will also be introduced to provide a warning and decrease power in the event of the converter going offline. As with all recall repairs, the fix is free.

Millions of cars are recalled, sometimes more than once. While automakers do their best to notify every vehicle owner affected by a recall, they don’t always reach everyone. To check whether your vehicle might be subject to a recall, use the easy tool at our recall center. All you need is your VIN, license plate, or year, make, and model of your car to get started.
