Koenigsegg turns 20 this year and the Swedish boutique carmaker is celebrating the occasion by unveiling the most outrageous vehicle to ever emerge from its state-of-the-art operation. Based on the already impressive Agera R supercar, the Agera One:1’s name refers to its status as the first homologated production car to offer a mind-boggling one metric horsepower per kilogram of curb weight. Tipping the scales at 1,341 kilograms, or 2,956 pounds, the mid-mounted 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 in the One:1 makes 1,341 PS horsepower – which translates into one Megawatt in the metric world and 1,322 SAE-scaled ponies here in America. However you define that prodigious motive force, it all heads to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and gets transferred to the pavement though an electronically controlled limited-slip differential.

Formal numbers notwithstanding, Christian von Koenigsegg says the One:1’s unprecedented power to weight ratio coupled with its active aerodynamics package gives the car a theoretical top speed in excess of 273 mph — which if proven true in the real world will make it the world’s fastest production vehicle. For the record, that terminal velocity figure is formally limited by the capability of the One:1’s tires.
In creating the new One:1, Koenigsegg comprehensively revamped the Agera R package to trim mass and enhance its potential to outperform other ultracars like the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918. Weight of the One:1’s carbon fiber tub was cut by 20 percent compared to the Agera R’s through the use of lighter high-modulus fibers and nearly a pound was trimmed from exhaust finisher alone by switching to a 3D-printed titanium piece in place of the standard aluminum component. While Koenigsegg did not specify exact changes made to the bespoke engine that bumps its output from the 1,140 horses it produces in the Agera R, it confirmed that the turbochargers in the One:1 use Koenigsegg-patented 3D-printed variable turbo housings that help improve response and bottom end torque.

The One:1 also boasts its own, even more sophisticated 3G/GPS computer-controlled Predictive Active Chassis and Aero Track Mode aerodynamic elements. These include independently adjustable left/right front lower flaps and a hydraulically actuated dual-plane rear wing in addition to designed-in underbody venturi tunnels. Capable of developing 1,344 pounds of total downforce at 160 mph and 1,830 pounds at max velocity, Koenigsegg says the One:1 can generate a stunning 2.0g of cornering force on its street-legal Michelin Cup tires. To keep its driver cool, collected and properly connected, the One:1 also features new Koenigsegg-developed Carbon fiber ventilated memory foam racing seats along with 3G connection for all of its on-board telemetry and smart-device integration.
As for its final round of significant figures, the Koenigsegg Agera One:1 will be produced in a series of six units. Despite a reported $2 million price of entry, all are already pre-sold.
