In the market for a new full-size pickup? Kelley Blue Book’s Automotive Insights Senior Market Analyst, Alec Gutierrez, says the best time to head to your local dealership is right now to take advantage of the best cash offers available this year. These attractive deals are on the table because there’s currently an overabundance of unsold inventory in the segment — particularly of the Chevrolet Silverado (138-day supply) and GMC Sierra (146-day supply), both of which have been redesigned for the 2014 model year and will go on sale sometime in the second quarter of 2013.
In an effort to reduce those numbers, GM is now offering qualified buyers some super enticements on both 2012 and 2013 Silverados and Sierras. The most aggressive are found on the 2012s, and include multiple thousands of dollars in cash incentives along with zero-percent financing for 60 months on certain models. While the remainder of December bodes best when it comes to prices and selections, KBB.com expects to see significant discounts on these trucks carry forward into 2013, as well.
Gutierrez notes that the good news for buyers is not just confined to General Motors pickups. "As is typically the case, Ford, Chrysler, and the Japanese truck makers have all followed suit by offering equally enticing incentives." He also points out that buyers not ready to purchase a new pickup today will likely find even more attractive choices arriving in showrooms during the next 12-18 months, including the fully-redesigned 2015 Ford F-Series. While these next-gen models won’t offer the same kind of up-front incentives, all are virtually certain to offer more power, improved fuel economy and an enhanced roster of standards and options.
