Jeep has recalled 91,787 Grand Cherokee 4xe SUVs from model years 2022-2026 because a software error can make them lose drive power.

The company tells the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that a problem in the software controlling the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) battery can trigger the power distribution system to reset. That shuts down drive power, which could cause a crash.

Jeep is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue, but knows of 110 field reports of it.

The company says a remedy is “under development.” When it comes, it will be free. By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.
