Jaguar Sales Hobbled by Hack

Cars lined up for sale outside a Jaguar Land Rover dealership

Jaguar dealers are temporarily hobbled selling cars due to a cybersecurity incident.

Reuters reports that both “retail and production activities have been ‘severely disrupted’ following a cybersecurity incident.” The company “said it had not found any evidence at this stage that any customer data had been stolen after it shut down its systems to mitigate impact.”

The U.K.’s AutoCar says “the issues are impacting parts supplies and new car handovers,” but a Jaguar spokesperson has not confirmed details.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the BBC reports “it comes in the wake of crippling attacks on prominent UK retail businesses, including the Co-op and Marks and Spencer. In both cases, the hackers sought to extort money.”

Jaguar has stopped production of most of its cars as it prepares for a rebrand that will move the company upmarket. But U.S. dealers still have thousands of E-Pace, F-Pace, and F-Type models left to sell.
