The enthusiast-oriented Hyundai N sub-brand was formally announced last fall in Frankfurt accompanied by the unveiling of the Hyundai N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo Concept and an i20-based World Rally Championship car pictured here. At that time, the automaker was still weighing whether any of its new motorsport-inspired N-spec production cars would be heading to America. That speculation has now ended with word that we will see the N badge on one or more Hyundai vehicles sold here.

As for specifics on these BMW M-car rivals, they remain sketchy. Beyond confirming the N sub-brand would be featured in Hyundai’s future plans for this market, products and roll-out dates are yet to be announced. It’s believed the first N model to go on sale will be based on Hyundai’s i30 subcompact, which, like the i20 is a European-only model and simply not in the cards for the U.S. A Hyundai source did say rumors that U.S.-spec N-tuned vehicles would start arriving by next summer were optimistic at best and that it would likely be a couple of years before N models appear here.
