It’s no secret that Hyundai has been pondering a move into the red-hot compact crossover SUV market as evidenced by our recent spy shot of a prototype testing in Europe. In Beijing, we got our first good look at this vehicle in the form of the Hyundai ix25 Concept. While "strategically-developed for China" where it will go on sale exclusively later in 2014, there’s a chance this stylish B-segment vehicle might turn up here as a smaller sibling to the Tucson and Santa Fe Sport.

Based on the same basic platform that underpins the popular Kia Soul, the Hyundai ix25 Concept is slightly larger overall but targets the same youth market that wants style and practicality. The crisply rendered exterior of the ix25 Concept features Hyundai’s latest Fluidic 2.0 design language while a sophisticated 2.0-liter direct-injected "Nu" 4-cylinder engine sits underhood. While the show car featured Hyundai’s intelligent multi-mode HTRAC all-wheel drive system, the production ix25 is expected to offer standard front-drive.
