Honda announced this morning that it will reveal a series of new electric vehicles (EVs) at next month’s CES consumer electronics show in Las Vegas.
What is a series of EVs? That’s not clear.
Honda sent journalists a short press release light on details, promising executives will use the show to “speak about Honda’s vision for an electrified society and unveil the new global EV series.”
A photograph accompanying the announcement showed what may be the front end of a very low-slung, wedge-like sports car with a front splitter and very angular wheel designs. But it’s almost certainly just a concept car, as it looks unfit for crash testing or bumper regulations.
So, we’ll have to wait for the January 9 opening of CES for details.
Honda has promised to “introduce 30 new EVs globally by 2030 with a global sales volume of 2 million units.” It plans to achieve 100% zero-emission automobile sales in North America by 2030.
But the company has taken a winding road to get there.
The first two EVs of its new plan – the Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX – ride on General Motors platforms. Honda has promised to build its own EV platform for future models. The company has also teamed up with Sony to launch a separate EV-only brand, to be called Afeela.
