Honda is recalling 880,514 vehicles for premature corrosion of the rear subframe. The following vehicles are affected:
- 2014-2020 Acura MDX
- 2019-2023 Honda Passport
- 2016-2022 Honda Pilot
- 2017-2023 Honda Ridgeline
In a report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Honda said that vehicles located in regions that use salt for road de-icing may experience premature corrosion at rear subframe mounting points.
According to Honda, “If the mounting points for the rear control arm or lower arm fail, the rear wheel(s) may become misaligned or inadequately retained, which could adversely affect vehicle handling, stability, and braking performance.”
Affected vehicles’ rear subframes were not properly coated to specification, which “may result in insufficient paint adhesion and premature paint peeling near the arm bracket weld area.” This could lead to failure of the rear control arm and raise the risk of a crash.
Honda said that owners may notice unusual noises or vibrations from the rear suspension, or changes in vehicle handling, and should bring their vehicle to the nearest dealer. There have been no warranty claims or injuries related to this issue.
Honda and Acura dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and, if required, repair or replace the rear subframe components.
Owners will be notified beginning July 7, 2026.
While automakers do their best to notify every vehicle owner affected by a recall, they may not reach everyone. Check whether your vehicle has any outstanding recalls by using the vehicle identification number (VIN) tool at our recall center.
