- Engines of certain 2016-2026 Honda and Acura vehicles get an extended cylinder head gasket warranty.
- The warranty extends to 10 years or 150,000 miles from the original date of purchase.
- 2016 models get until May 31, 2027.
Honda has doubled its engine warranty for some of its most popular models due to cylinder head gasket issues, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported last week.
Honda and its luxury brand Acura issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) to dealers, which is not a recall. A TSB is a notification to dealers to perform certain fixes at no charge to owners. In this case, Honda is covering cylinder head gasket issues for 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first, from the original date of purchase.
The extended warranty applies to hybrid and gas-only CR-V, Accord, and Civic models from the 2016 to 2026 model years. For vehicles older than the extended warranty period, such as some of the 2016 models, Honda will add a 6-month grace period from when the bulletin gets sent to owners. Since that is expected to happen in early October, owners of the older models will have until May 31, 2027, to get head gasket work completed.
The head gasket issue could cause the affected vehicle to overheat and the engines to misfire. The engines could lose coolant, as well, and any of these issues will trigger a check engine light and related diagnostic codes.

- 2018-2026 Honda Accord
- 2018-2026 Honda Accord Hybrid
- 2016-2026 Honda Civic
- 2025-2026 Honda Civic Hybrid
- 2017-2026 Honda CR-V
- 2020-2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid
- 2023-2026 Acura Integra
- 2025-2026 Acura ADX
What Is Covered By the Extended Head Gasket Warranty?
Honda and Acura back their new car powertrains with a 5-year/60,000-mile warranty. The extended warranty for the head gasket specifically doubles the original warranty period and applies back to when the car was originally purchased, and that warranty is transferrable to a subsequent owner if the car was resold.
Technicians at Honda and Acura dealer service centers will inspect and repair warped cylinder head gaskets, if needed, at no cost to owners. The cylinder head and engine short block could be replaced. A proper head gasket helps to ensure that your vehicle’s engine will run longer and with greater reliability.
