Although dubbing it "a further exploration of the performance potential of the CR-Z Sport Hybrid," the Honda Performance Division Supercharged CR-Z Concept is a fully engineered exercise that clearly has been created with future production potential in mind. Making its debut at SEMA, this trick one-off gets tweaked version of the supercharged CR-Z 4-cylinder engine that was first seen at last-year’s event. Now bolstered with a new sport exhaust system, output of the CR-Z’s engine/IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) package rises from 122 to 185 horsepower while peak torque jumps from 128 to 169 lb-ft.
Other dynamic enhancements on the HPD Supercharged CR-Z Concept include a lower and more tautly-tuned suspension, more powerful brakes with 4-piston calipers, and 18-inch HPD lightweight alloy wheels wrapped in 215/40 Z-rated Michelin Pilot Super Sport performance tires. In addition to HPD-spec front splitter and rear spoiler, the car is fitted with a new HPD rear diffuser that features twin center-mount exhaust outlets. Only two questions still remain to be answered about this eco-oriented pocket rocket: How soon and how much?
