While providing no new details about the car itself, Honda CEO Takanobu Ito has confirmed that the next-generation Acura NSX will be developed and produced in Marysville, Ohio. It will roll out of a new dedicated facility near Honda of America’s existing manufacturing complex in that location, an operation that currently turns out the Honda Accord, Acura TL and Acura RDX.
Previewed at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show in Acura NSX Concept form, the volume-build version of this eagerly-anticipated two-seat stunner is still two to three years off. When it does arrive, the Gen II NSX will boast its own dedicated version of the automaker’s Sport Hybrid SH-AWD package. Key powertrain elements will match a new-generation direct-injected VTEC V6 mounted amidships and a dual-clutch transmission that incorporates a supplemental electric motor to drive the rear wheels with an individual motor/generator unit on each front wheel that can instantly add or subtract torque to optimize the car’s ability to carve through corners. Honda says this setup will endow the new NSX with significantly better handling than any other existing all-wheel-drive system.
