- Honda will make Google’s Gemini AI-powered voice assistant available to owners of many 2023 and later vehicles.
- There’s no charge for the upgrade, which should work automatically if you are logged in to a Google account.
If you own a 2023 or later vehicle from Honda or its Acura luxury brand, your car might be about to get a new feature. The company announced this week that it will add Google’s Gemini AI-powered voice assistant to several of its cars, dating back to model year 2023.
Owners don’t need to bring the cars in for the update; it should work automatically as long as you’re logged into a Google account.
“A seamless upgrade to Google Assistant, Gemini can engage in more intelligent, conversational interactions by maintaining context across multiple exchanges while enabling drivers to keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel,” the company explained.
Today, drivers need to use specific commands to engage the system. That won’t be necessary with the upgrade, Honda says.
The assistant will come to cars equipped with Google built-in — a list that includes several, but not all, Honda and Acura vehicles from 2023 on.
Virtual assistants are a popular new feature in 2026 cars, with most luxury automakers now offering some version of the technology. Honda joins Volvo in adding the technology to some cars already sold.
