Cadillac today confirmed what we’ve long suspected—the Lyriq-V is coming. If that sentence did not make sense to you, allow us to explain.
The Cadillac Lyriq is the brand’s first electric vehicle (EV) – a luxurious midsize SUV with an obsidian-sharp look and what Kelley Blue Book expert test driver Eric Brandt calls “an almost suspiciously strong mix of range, charging, power, and pricing figures.” Single-motor versions produce 340 horsepower, and dual-motor versions have a performance-car-like 500 hp.
Every trim level has an estimated range of over 300 miles.
About V Cars
V is Cadillac’s lineup of high-performance cars. Current V-Series products include the CT4-V and twin-turbocharged CT4-V Blackwing, the CT5-V and the supercharged CT5-V Blackwing, and the supercharged Escalade-V. Every one of them could put a scare into high-end sports cars. The Escalade-V, with 682 hp, is the most powerful Cadillac ever built (at least until the electric Celestiq ultra-luxury sedan reaches production).
With those two clues, you can probably piece together what Cadillac has planned for 2026.
An EV V Could Be Exceptionally Powerful
“Launching early next year, LYRIQ-V pushes the performance pedigree of the V-Series sub-brand to new heights,” Cadillac says.
The brand has offered no details yet. But, we’ll note, the Lyriq uses the same generation of batteries and motors as the GMC Hummer EV. With the right programming, General Motors has pushed that gear all the way to 1,000 hp in the big GMC.
V-Series cars often use advanced magnetorheological suspensions (we just like saying that phrase) that use electromagnetics to adapt to your driving style and road conditions. They are, to use another obscure engineering term, fun to drive.
The Lyriq-V, in a video posted to YouTube, also looks lower to the ground than standard Lyriq models.
“In the EV era, V-Series vehicles will be characterized by their exceptional performance, instantaneous acceleration, competitive range, and standard all-wheel drive (AWD),” Cadillac says.
We’ll bring more news as Cadillac has more to say.
