GMC to Unveil Electric Sierra Pickup

A teaser image shows the grille of the upcoming electric GMC SierraGMC will reveal an all-new, all-electric Sierra pickup tonight. Like all Sierras, it will likely share most of its parts and performance stats with a Chevrolet twin that appeared first. But it will set itself apart with luxury appointments and upscale styling.

GMC posted a brief teaser video to its website showing a few details, but not enough to give anyone a full sense of the truck. A disclaimer says the video shows a “simulated model.” It features the same upright, blocky design theme as the current Sierra. But a large shield surrounded by thin LED lights takes the place of the grille. Inverted L daytime running lights frame the shield.

The camera tracks backward over the roof, showing a huge panoramic sunroof like that of the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV this truck likely shares most of its design with. But the camera stops before it gets to the bed, so we can’t tell whether the Sierra EV wears the same Chevy Avalanche-style exaggerated C-pillars as the electric Silverado.

Silverado EV Likely Previews Sierra EV

The electric Sierra will appear first as a luxuriously-appointed Sierra EV Denali Edition 1. The teaser video shows quilted leather seats.

Chevy has given more details about its electric Silverado, revealing that every trim level will be 4-wheel-drive, and the truck may have a range of up to 400 miles between charges. The company aims to sell the Silverado EV for as little as $39,900 and as much as $105,000. We should point out, however, that Rival Ford sold its all-electric Lightning truck for under $40,000 for a brief window before raising prices amid high demand.

High demand has been the rule for electric trucks to date. GMC already makes one – the more off-road-oriented Hummer EV. The company has had to halt taking reservations for that truck while it works to catch up on a backlog of orders that could take more than a year to clear.
