2018 Fisker EMotion Previewed

Less than a month after releasing preliminary sketches of a new electric-powered 4-door, designer Henrik Fisker revealed the first official photos of the car which is scheduled to launch here late next year as the 2018 Fisker Emotion. Along with these early images, Fisker also provided some additional details about the vehicle that he sees as a rival to the Tesla Model S.

The new EMotion features a mixed-material construction intended to optimize overall strength and efficiency as well as packaging and end-of-life recyclability. As previously noted, Fisker claims the new EMotion will have a per-charge range in excess of 400 miles thanks to an advanced battery currently being developed by the firm’s Nanotech division. Reportedly offering lower cost, reduced charging times and longer overall life than existing designs, it will be mounted beneath the car’s floor to ensure maximum cabin space.

Visually, the EMotion has a sleek, coupe-like profile with the aggressively contoured low nose sporting adaptive LED headlamps and housing a centrally mounted radar and camera behind a trapezoid-shaped inset. The car also has unique dihedral-design “butterfly doors” to facilitate access/egress into what promises to be a far more accommodating cabin than the original Fisker Karma with “superb rear legroom.”

While not part of the initial package, Fisker notes the new EMotion will offer fully autonomous capability as an option when the system is fully developed and approved. Although the EMotion will be a “premium” priced model, Fisker currently is working on a second more affordable vehicle intended to become part of a larger family.
