Galpin Ford GTR1 Supercar teased

Next month’s annual gathering of automotive all-stars at the Quail Lodge and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is shaping up to be a week to remember. One of the first of what promises to be an impressive group of new concept vehicles due to debut there can be seen in this pair of preview renderings depicting the Galpin Ford GTR1. Based on the short-lived mid-engine Ford GT that was built from 2004-2006, the GTR1 is meant to show how that supercar may have evolved if it had remained in production to this day. While few specifics accompanied the images, the handful of details that were provided are intriguing to say the least.

Designed by Galpin Auto Sports — the non-denominational go-faster division of the world’s largest Ford Dealership located in Van Nuys, California — the GTR1 is the first full coachbuilt exercise ever created by the GAS organization. Constructed by the equally renowned SoCal fabricator group, Metalcrafters, the GTR1 features a hand-formed aluminum body that’s five inches wider than the GT and packs a 5.4-liter twin-turbocharged Ford V8 tuned to develop 1,024 horsepower and 739 lb-ft of torque. Galpin says that should allow the car to reach a top speed of 225 mph. Other tech highlights include custom 20-inch forged aluminum knock-off wheels, Pirelli P-Zero tires and 6-piston brakes with full carbon rotors. Trimmed in supple hand-fabricated leather, the cabin of the GTR1 also sports a machined-aluminum instrument panel and a premium McIntosh sound system.

Galpin Auto Sports plans a very limited built-to-order run of GTR1s that will be available with aluminum or carbon fiber bodywork. No word yet on what price a GAS GTR1 will command in either wrapper.
