Ford Recalls Ranger Trucks Over Sun Visor Fires

Ford has recalled 140,201 Ranger pickups from model years 2024-2026 because their sun visors can catch fire.

Yes, you read that right. Their sun visors can catch fire.

In paperwork filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the company explains that a wiring harness supplying power to the visor lights can short-circuit, triggering a fire.

The company warns that, “A driver may experience flickering or inoperative sun visor mirror lights and overhead console lights prior to a smoking, melting, or fire event.”

The company knows of no accidents or injuries, but three field reports related to the problem.

Dealers will inspect the wiring and replace or reroute it if necessary to fix the problem. Recall repairs are always free.

Automakers recall many cars to fix safety defects, sometimes more than once. While automakers try to reach every owner to ask them to bring the vehicle in for repair, they rarely get them all. Millions of vehicles on American roads need free recall repairs. To find out if your car is one of them, check the easy VIN tool at our recall center.
