Ford has recalled 100,900 Ranger pickups from model years 2024-2026 because their side curtain airbags can tear as they deploy. That renders the airbag ineffective and can cause burns as the hot gases that fill the airbag spray into the cabin.
Ford tells federal safety officials that the inflating airbag can catch on part of the B-pillar (the roof support behind the front doors) and tear as it unfolds.
Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the problem, which was discovered during a government safety test.
Dealers will fix the problem by installing a protective shield between the airbag and the component it caught on during the test.
Ford has already set a record for the highest number of recalls an automaker has issued in a single year. The previous record was 77. Ford has had 109 recalls so far in 2025, with nearly a third of the year left.
