Ford is recalling 7,105 heavy-duty trucks because incorrect software was downloaded to fix a fuel pump issue on trucks equipped with a 6.7-liter diesel engine. The following vehicles are affected:
- 2020-2022 Ford F-250 SD
- 2020-2022 Ford F-350 SD
- 2020-2022 Ford F-450 SD
- 2020-2022 Ford F-550 SD
- 2021-2022 Ford F-600 SD
- 2022 Ford F-750
Ford told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that under a prior recall, notice 24S78, the initial software remedy may not have downloaded. The original issue pertained to “failure of the high-pressure fuel pump that may result in extended cranking without starting while the vehicle is parked or loss of motive power while driving.”
According to Ford, the intended software fix “did not follow the correct sequence, which allowed for a prior level software version without the remedy to be installed on vehicles.” Losing engine power could increase the risk of a crash.
The company said dealers will install the correct PCM software update that “will increase pump cooling and prevent formation of aged biodiesel deposits.”
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail beginning March 30, 2026, and they’ll have to take their trucks into a dealer for the update.
