Ford is recalling 548,463 Expedition full-size SUVs from model years 2018 to 2024 due to defective chrome trim on the center console that may cause injury to occupants.
In a report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford said, “the chrome plating on the center console may bubble and peel from the base material, potentially resulting in a sharp edge.”
The company says that prior to the chrome being exposed, it “may first exhibit bubbling before peeling occurs. Bubbling and peeling are overt to occupants.”
After reviewing vehicle owner questionnaires regarding the degraded chrome trim on the center console, Ford conducted field testing, which led to the current recall notice.
According to the NHTSA filing, Ford said it is aware of 34 customer call center reports, 150 field reports, 4,634 warranty reports, one accident, and 65 injuries worldwide related to the issue. According to Ford, “customer reports of hand and finger lacerations associated with this condition include a small number of instances stating that professional medical attention was required.”
Affected vehicles will have the console inspected and, if necessary, replaced by Ford or Lincoln dealerships. There is no charge for recall repairs.
Owners will be notified beginning June 29, 2026.
