Ford and its Lincoln luxury brand have recalled 499,129 vehicles because they can leak brake fluid. As a car loses brake fluid, it requires progressively more pressure on the brake pedal to stop, and will need a longer distance to do so. Changes in the way a car brakes can contribute to an accident.
Recalled models include the:
- 2015-2018 Ford Edge
- 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX
Ford tells federal safety officials the SUVs have “suspect rear brake jounce hoses.” The hoses can rupture, spilling brake fluid.
The company knows of no accidents or injuries, but at least “64 warranty claims, three field reports, and 16 customer complaints related to rear brake jounce hose leaks.”
This is Ford’s 105th recall of 2025, a record for any automaker.
Ford says a remedy is still “under development.” When it comes, it will be free. By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.
Automakers recall many cars every year, sometimes more than once. They try to reach every owner to warn them. However, some fall through the system’s cracks and unknowingly drive recalled cars. Check our easy recall tool to determine if your vehicle has any outstanding recalls.
