Ford Re-Recalls Expedition Over Park Warning

The 2019 Ford Expedition in white seen from head on

Ford has recalled 890 Expedition SUVs from model year 2019 because they may not properly warn drivers when they fail to complete parking.

The company recalled many Expedition models in 2020 because of an inadequate “transmission not in park” warning message and chime when the engine was shut off without the transmission set to Park. Dealers fixed most with a software update.

The company has since learned that the system it used to install software updates could occasionally fail, but report success. Dealers returned some vehicles to owners, believing they’d been updated when they hadn’t.

Ford says it can identify which vehicles received a failed update. Dealers will fix the problem by repeating the software update with a new process that verifies success.

By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.

Manufacturers recall many cars, often more than once, during their lifespan. Automakers try to contact every owner but don’t always reach them all. Discover if your vehicle has any outstanding recalls with the easy-to-use vehicle identification number (VIN) tool at our recall center.
