Most automakers are busy blacking out their cars. Toyota offers blackened Nightshade editions of most of its cars. Nissan calls its versions Midnight Editions. At Kia, it’s the Nightfall package.
Ford has seen enough.
The Dearborn company is now going the other way. A new Ice White Appearance Package available on both the 2022 Mustang coupe (but not convertible) and 2022 Mustang Mach-E electric SUV covers both vehicles in white. A lot of white: white paint, white badges, white leather inserts. Providing a break from all this whiteness are contrasting black surrounds on the seats, door panels, and dash.
Ford has not announced a price for the package. Ice White Mustang and Mach E models will be available for order in the fall.
For the Mustang, buyers can order the package on GT and EcoBoost models. It rides on 19×9-inch wheels in matching Oxford White with machine-surfaced pockets and includes “unique iced-out taillamps.”
For the Mach-E, the package is offered only on the upscale Premium trim. The interior leather panels that the package adds to the Mach-E are actually Light Space Gray, though they look white against the black of the rest of the upholstery. The Mach-E package includes unique 19-inch machined-face aluminum wheels with Oxford White-painted pockets.
There is a history behind the package. Ford says it is a callback to the last of the fox body Mustangs, which got a similar all-white treatment in 1993. It’s also the first design package offered on both vehicles that carry the Mustang name.
