Ford F-150 Tremor – An Off-Road Truck Without the Raptor Price Tag

There’s a Ford F-150 for almost every need. It’s not just our Full-Size Pickup Truck Best Buy for 2021, it’s won that award every year we’ve offered it. That record comes, in part, thanks to the versatility of the lineup. Those who plan to take their full-size pickup off-road have long lusted after the brand’s halo truck, the F-150 Raptor, with its absurdly beefy suspension, high-powered engine. That capability has come at a steep cost of $53,205 for the extended cab and over $56,000 for the crew cab. Ford plans to offer those buyers another option – a slightly more affordable one in the 2021 Ford F-150 Tremor.

The Tremor offers much of the off-road prowess of the Raptor, with a bit less of the desert racing character. There’s less cladding, no light bar nor a bed-mounted spare. Still, the Tremor features upgraded suspension and driveline hardware, increased suspension travel, approach, breakover, and departure angles. Locking front and rear differentials are standard. Ground clearance is 1.5 inches higher in the rear and one inch higher in the front, than the standard truck. A skid plate and off-road running boards give it ground clearance and undercarriage protection. It also boasts a unique hood and grille.

Available enhancements include Trail Control, Trail One-Pedal Drive, and Trail Turn Assist. It rides on 33-inch all-terrain tires and has a 1-inch wider stance than standard models. Under the hood, you’ll find a 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6 putting out 400 horsepower, mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The F-150 Tremor comes only in a SuperCrew configuration, with a 5.5-inch bed.

The Tremor will reach dealerships next summer. Though Ford hasn’t released pricing, Tremor should slot in between the FX4 off-road version of the F-150, which adds about $1,000 to a 4-wheel drive truck, and the next edition of the Raptor, which awaits its reveal.
