Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator Recalled Over Loose Trailer Hitches

Ford and its Lincoln luxury marque have recalled 1,364 Ford Explorer SUVs from model years 2024-2025 and Lincoln Aviator SUVs from model years 2024-2026 because their trailer hitches may not be properly attached. That can lead to a loss of control or a detached trailer.

The company tells federal safety officials that factory workers may not have tightened bolts attaching the tow hitches to the correct torque.

The company is aware of at least three warranty claims, but no accidents or injuries related to the issue.

Dealers will inspect the bolts and tighten or replace them if necessary to fix the problem.

Dealers never charge for recall repairs.

Ford has had a challenging year of recalls and safety problems. Prior to 2025, the record for the most safety recalls an automaker had ever issued in a single year was 77. This is Ford’s 127th recall of 2025, with more than two months left in the year.
