We factor in vehicle pricing. Our data analysts calculate 5-Year Cost to Own data — including depreciation, insurance, maintenance, financing, fuel, fees, and taxes. We study consumer reviews and ratings and vehicle sales information. Finally, we bring the best contenders in for head-to-head testing.
To be considered for Kelley Blue Book’s Best New Model, its highest accolade, the vehicle must be an all-new or redesigned vehicle — unavailable before the prior year’s final Best Buy Awards testing — and offer a strong value proposition to consumers based on pricing, innovation, and available standard technology and safety features.
A Flexible Lineup
Not all full-size SUV buyers have the same needs.
Some need such a big vehicle to carry a big family. Others need room for adults, not kids. Others need hauling capacity and more cargo storage than a pickup truck can offer.
Ford has an Expedition for each of them. Six trim levels, seating for between five and eight, standard and extended-length bodies, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) models, and two power levels mean buyers can customize the vehicle they need.
For 2023, the Expedition offers an impressive set of cabin technologies as standard equipment. Its infotainment system runs through a 12-inch touchscreen (no 8-inch model here) and includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Larger 12.4- and 15.5-inch screens are available.
Towing capacity of up to 9,300 pounds is impressive, and technologies like Pro Trailer Backup Assist 2.0 (which lets you steer a trailer with the turn of a knob) make towing easier.
