Ford and its Lincoln luxury brand have a solution ready for owners of 4,632 Expedition and Navigator SUVs from model year 2020, who have been caught up in a long-running recall drama.
The company informs federal safety officials that, for vehicles produced on specific dates, a circuit board in the battery junction box may have been soldered improperly. It can suffer a short circuit. If so, the surrounding components may catch fire.
The company asked owners to park outdoors away from structures back in 2022, while it investigated the problem. It found the issue, but also a complication. A design change meant that some cars required one solution, while others needed a different fix.
Ford fixed some quickly. It now has a solution ready for the rest.
By law, manufacturers never charge for recall repairs.
Ford has a growing recall problem. The company broke the record for the most safety recalls ever issued by an automaker in a single year back in July. As of this week, Ford has issued 118 so far in 2025. At this pace, it could double the old record of 77.
