Ford Bumps Maverick Price, Makes Hybrid Optional

Ford has confirmed that it will bump up the price of the 2024 Maverick and swap which powertrain will be standard on the truck. The compact pickup has been highly sought after since its initial release in 2021, and demand shows no sign of slowing down. Think of the truck as the Taylor Swift tickets of the automotive industry – extremely difficult to get your hands on.

Ford tells us the 2024 Maverick will start at $23,400 – $805 more than current prices. Including the $1,595 destination fee, the new manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) is $24,995.

The price change comes with bigger news: The Maverick’s hybrid powertrain, which had been standard, will now cost extra as an option.

Hybrid No Longer Standard

The 2.0-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder turbo engine, Ford tells us, will become the new standard powertrain for the 2024 Maverick. The hybrid powertrain will be a $1,500 option. Ford says 2024 hybrid Maverick trucks will start at $26,495, including destination. 2023 model year Mavericks with the hybrid had started at $24,190, including destination.

Yet even with the cost increase, Ford has ramped up production of the Maverick. Facing numerous supply-chain issues and more orders than they can produce, Ford has added a third shift at the Hermosillo, Mexico, plant. The company plans to bring on an additional 6,000 workers.

The truck has been a breakout hit for Ford since its debut as a 2022 model-year vehicle. Being one of just two compact pickups released in roughly a decade — along with the Hyundai Santa Cruz — shoppers flocked to get behind the wheel of one. 

Orders for the 2023 model sold out within six days of release. Ford stated that Maverick sales increased by 7.8% within the second quarter. With pre-orders reopening for their 2024 models, interested buyers should plan to get their hands on one before they go fast.
