Ford Motor Company has released a new software update for its SYNC infotainment/telematics system allowing owners of over 5 million 2011-2016 Ford and Lincoln vehicles to add Siri Eyes-Free capability to their in-car systems. Already integrated into the latest SYNC3 system, this Siri Eyes-Free software update can be installed on any Gen II SYNC system known as MyFord Touch and MyLincoln Touch.

Currently used by numerous automakers, Siri Eyes-Free relies on a paired iPhone to allow quick, easy voice activation of numerous functions via Apple’s electronic assistant Siri. These include everything from placing phone calls to contacts in the address book and sending/receiving text messages to playing music and getting directions through Apple Maps. In commenting on this update, Sherif Marakby, director, Ford Electronics and Electrical Systems Engineering noted: "Siri Eyes-Free is another great voice-activated feature that not only adds convenience but helps our customers keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel."
