The all-new 2024 Ford Mustang already has a strong claim to being a historically important car. With the rest of the Big Three canceling their gas-powered muscle cars soon (bye, Challenger; bye Camaro, for now), it’s the last stand of true internal-combustion-powered American muscle.
So, it’s likely to have special appeal to enthusiasts. Early orders seem to be bearing that out.
Ford has revealed a few details about the choices Mustang buyers are making.
The Mustang comes with a choice of three drivetrains. EcoBoost models come with a turbo 4-cylinder engine making 315 horsepower. More powerful GT models get a 5.0-liter V8 making 480. The all-new Mustang Dark Horse gets a retuned version of that V8, making 500.
According to Ford:
- 50% of EcoBoost buyers who choose the High-Performance Package add the unique drift brake option, designed to help even amateurs drift like a pro (watch our Mike Danger test it out).
- 27% of GT and Dark Horse buyers have opted for the available 6-speed manual transmission
- 22% of GT buyers have chosen the High-Performance Package, while about 26% have opted for the Nite Pony package that blacks out most exterior trim
- The most popular paint choices for EcoBoost and GT buyers are Shadow Black (17%), Oxford White (13%), and Rapid Red (11%)
- 39% of Dark Horse buyers have chosen Blue Ember, while 18% have chosen Vapor Blue, and 16% have opted for Shadow Black
