Classic American Muscle Cars live on Forever (stamps)

The latest in the ongoing series of "Forever" U.S. postage stamps has just been unveiled, and this time around, the honored subject is American Muscle Cars. Flanked by NASCAR legend Richard "The King" Petty and his son Kyle, Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe unveiled this high-powered limited-edition set — officially part of the "America on the Move" series — at the Daytona International Speedway as part of the lead up to the 55th running of the Daytona 500. The Classic American Muscle Cars collection features five of the most significant vehicles from that bygone era: the 1966 Pontiac GTO, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda and 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS.

"The muscle cars gave everyday Americans the opportunity to experience the rush of driving a fast, powerful car," said Postmaster Donahoe. "Just looking at the stamps evokes a feeling of speed. As Forever stamps, they’ll always be good for mailing a First-Class letter anytime in the future. And when you think about it, that’s fitting. Because these stamps — just like the great cars they represent — are timeless." This marks the third installation of the America on the Move stamp series. The first, "’50s Sporty Cars" was issued in 2005 followed by "’50s Fins and Chrome" in 2008.
