General Motors has issued a recall for 2,785 heavy-duty trucks, including the 2019 GMC Sierra 2500, 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 3500, 2018 GMC Sierra 1500, 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, and the 2019 GMC Sierra 3500.
The roof rail airbag inflators may have a defect that causes separation at the inflator end cap or a split in the inflator sidewall. If the end cap separates or the sidewall ruptures, compressed gas will escape into the vehicle.
A small amount of water left in the canister after washing caused corrosion and cracking, weakening it, according to the recall filing. To fix the issue, dealers will replace the left- and right-side roof-rail airbag modules.
