BMW, Mini Recall 1,500 Vehicles Over Seat Belt Issue

BMW and its Mini division have recalled 1,571 vehicles because their seat belts may not properly restrain passengers in an accident.

Recalled models include some, but not all, examples of the:

The company tells federal safety officials that some front seat safety belt retractors — devices that cinch the belt tight in an accident — may have been damaged during production. That might reduce the belts’ ability to restrain passengers.

Dealers will fix the problem by replacing the front seat belt assemblies.

By law, dealers never charge for recall repairs.
