Everybody knows at least a few families who chose a Subaru Forester as their 5-passenger compact crossover SUV investment, and not all of them live in Denver. Our country’s Subaru obsession may have started in the mountains, but it has certainly come down off the slopes and trails and now, sporting strong initial value, exceptional resale value, and legendary all-wheel drive, fulfilled families all over North America have been driving the most distinctive Japanese brand out there.

The Forester is all-new for 2019

Riding high and on a roll in the U.S., Subaru has introduced an all-new Forester for 2019. Tackling city streets, mountain roads, mountain off-roads, and snow-covered you-name-its – all with equal ease – the new Forester rides on the same new global platform that makes the Crosstrek such a force to be reckoned with. While the visual cues aren’t radically different from the previous SUV, Subaru managed to create more interior room in both rows, a wider rear opening for better cargo loading, and a full 8.7 inches of ground clearance (same as last year’s Forester) for those times when the road gets rugged. However, this year’s model is both quieter and more lithe on the road.

Under the hood, the new Forester is powered by a sweetened version of Subaru’s 2.5-liter flat-4, which now produces 182 horsepower, a moderate helping of power, but still plenty to get you up to highway speeds even with the whole tribe on board. To mate with the sole Forester engine, Subaru has developed a continuously variable automatic transmission with varied drive modes from smooth to sporty, and capable of achieving as much as 33 mpg on the highway – even with all-wheel drive as a steadfast standard feature.

Loaded with standard safety and smarts

A hot contender again this year in our annual Best Resale Value Awards competition, the Forester has long been notable for how well it retains its resale value. With this new generation, the compact SUV puts a new emphasis on making intelligent safety and convenience features standard. In addition to – and well beyond – Apple CarPlay and Android Auto coming on every 2019 Forester, Subaru includes its EyeSight suite of safety features. EyeSight includes adaptive cruise control, automatic braking and throttle management to prevent collisions with cars and pedestrians, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.

Other standard equipment on every 2019 Subaru Forester includes LED headlights, automatic power door locks, an electronic parking brake, and automatic climate control. While the Forester’s towing capacity is a shrug of 1,500 pounds, it does come with standard trailer-stability assist. For off-pavement family adventures, a convenient rearview-camera washer helps keep the world behind you clear when backing up.

Subaru makes it easy to stay within your budget

A host of family-flavored options – often determined by the trim level you choose – are available on the new Forester, including roof rails, an all-weather package (heated front seats, and exterior mirrors with a windshield de-icer), and for peace in the back seats, dual USB ports.

This all-new family-value Subaru compact SUV starts just a few hundred dollars more than the previous-generation model, launching at $25,270, but you can top $32,000 if you really indulge yourself. Either way, the desirability of all Subarus makes it easy to get a good deal of your investment back when the time comes to sell your Forester.
