Automakers continue ramping up Hurricane Sandy relief efforts

We recently cited a pricing and financing program established by Nissan/Infiniti designed to help victims of Hurricane Sandy replace vehicles that had been damaged or destroyed by the catastrophic weather event. However, numerous other auto manufacturers have also stepped up with various types of assistance to ease the stress of those impacted by this devastating superstorm. At this point, BMW of North America, Mercedes-Benz USA and Toyota Motor North America Inc has each made a $1 million contribution to the American Red Cross specifically earmarked for disaster relief. Volkswagen Group of America and American Honda have each pledged $500,000 to the effort, the GM Foundation $250,000, Mazda North American Operations and Chrysler Corporation’s Ram Trucks $100,000 each and Ford Motor Company $50,000. Most of these firms are also providing matching funds for any additional money contributed to the Red Cross by their respective employees and/or dealers.

Today, Volvo also announced its own special pricing program for people who had vehicles damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. Like the Nissan/Infiniti effort, it too offers qualified individuals who reside in FEMA-designated disaster/emergency areas employee pricing deals on a new Volvo as well as an additional $1,000 to help offset various costs. In other related assistance undertakings, Chevrolet has donated 50 Express cargo vans, Traverse crossover utilities and Tahoe SUVs to the American Red Cross for its use in the relief and recovery effort, each OnStar equipped unit coming with 300 minutes of free calling time. Ram Truck also is donating 20 Ram 1500 Tradesman pickups to the cause. Last but far from least, the National Automobile Dealer Association (NADA) has made a $1 million contribution to the Red Cross.
