Audi Teases New Q8 e-tron SUVs

A teaser image released by Audi showing the outlines of its upcoming Q8 e-tron and Q8 e-tron Sportback SUVsAudi will reveal a pair of new high-end, all-electric SUVs later this week. To whet your appetite, the German automaker has released a shadowy image of the vehicles.

The automotive press knows little about the Q8 e-tron and Q8 e-tron Sportback, but rumors suggest they’ll help simplify the automaker’s lineup in its quest to go all-electric ahead of most of its rivals.

Several years ago, the company released a pair of all-electric SUVs under the names e-tron and e-tron Sportback.

Since then, the e-tron name has spread through its lineup with vehicles like the Q4 e-tron small SUV and e-tron GT grand touring car. Those cars use the e-tron name to designate they’re electric and the rest of their name to explain where they fit in the Audi lineup. This leaves the original e-tron in a slightly confusing position.

Audi may fix that, rumors suggest, by adding the Q8 designation to the successor of the e-tron and e-tron Sportback. This could clarify to shoppers that the cars are meant as electric equivalents to the brand’s flagship Q8 SUV.

The photo shows one traditional SUV body and one sleeker, coupe-style Sportback model that trades away some cargo space for additional style points.

A video posted to Audi’s Facebook page sets a November 9 reveal date. We’ll bring more details when they come.
