Aston Martin DB11 Volante Teased for 2018 Debut

Following the reveal of the new 2017 Aston Martin DB11 Coupe at this year’s Geneva Auto Show, the British automaker has released teaser images of that car’s drop-top, the DB11 Volante. This lightly disguised prototype prominently displays the notation “Opening Spring 2018,” and if the timing holds, we can expect to see it also debut at the next Geneva gathering before turning up in the U.S., probably as a 2019 model.

Based on the DB11 Coupe’s all-new aluminum structure, the Volante shares the same powertrain as well, starting with the all-new 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 to be used in that car when it hits showrooms here late this year. Rated at 600-horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, the engine will be backed by a rear-mounted/paddle-shifted ZF 8-speed automatic and mechanical limited-slip differential derived from the Vanquish and Rapide S. Although heavier because of its folding top mechanism and requisite structural reinforcing, the Volante should still manage a 0-60 mph sprint in about four seconds. Like the DB11 Coupe, the new Volante also is expected to offer a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 alternative developed by Mercedes-AMG.
