  • The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4Matic Electric gets up to 350 miles of range.
  • The electric version of the GLC starts at $64,950, including the $1,450 destination fee.
  • The GLC Electric costs about $9,000 more than the 2026 GLC 300 4Matic with the 2.0-liter turbo-4.

The fully electric version of the 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC has a range of up to 350 miles and a starting price of $64,950 including destination fee, Mercedes announced Tuesday.

Dubbed the 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4Matic Electric, the new compact SUV has a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup that generates 483 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes estimates a zero-to-60-mph time of 4.2 seconds, which is two-tenths off of the new 2027 Mercedes-AMG GLC 53.

Confused? Mercedes is launching both combustion and electric performance versions of its redesigned bestseller at the same time. The AMG GLC 53 is the only combustion version of the 2027 GLC that has been announced thus far. It uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 with a mild-hybrid starter generator to boost it off the line and to conserve fuel while coasting. It’s rated at 443 hp and 443 lb-ft, hits 60 mph in 4.0 seconds, and, like the electric version, comes standard with AWD.

But at $71,350, it costs $6,400 more than the mechanically simpler GLC EV, or to be proper, GLC 400 4Matic Electric.

Range and Charge Times of the GLC 400 4Matic Electric

The GLC 400 4Matic Electric has a 94-kWh battery pack (usable) made of nickel manganese cobalt (NMC), which has high energy density in a relatively small package compared to LFP battery construction. Still, the GLC EV weighs 5,578 pounds, which is about 900 pounds more than the AMG GLC 53.

It has two ports, including a North American Charging Standard (NACS) receptacle that accepts a charge rate of up to 330 kW. That should DC fast charge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes, which is relatively quick but not the fastest for an EV based on an 800-volt architecture. The BMW iX3 does it in 21 minutes, while Lucid and certain Hyundai EVs can hit 80% in less than 20 minutes.

At home on a Level 2 charger, the GLC Electric uses a different port for AC charging. With the J1772 port, it can charge to full in 10 hours, but NMC batteries degrade faster over time if it’s regularly charged to full.

The GLC 400 Electric competes directly with the 2027 BMW iX3, which costs $62,850 and has a range of up to 434 miles thanks in part to its 112.2-kWh pack. When it comes to range, the iX3 outpaces the Rivian R2 (345 miles) and the best-selling Tesla Model Y (357 miles). The GLC 400 Electric is slated to arrive at dealerships in the third quarter.

What’s in a GLC Name?

The GLC 400 4Matic Electric might be a mouthful or a mindful, but it follows the convention of other electric vehicles in Mercedes’ lineup. Last year, Mercedes reversed course on branding its electric vehicle lineup with the “EQ” designation as standalone models unrelated to combustion engine variants. The EQS was the electric full-size sedan and the venerable S-Class remained as the combustion version. Same with the EQE and the E-Class, as well as the EQB and the GLB small SUVs. Mercedes also ditched the “EQ Technology” appendage in favor of a simplified “Electric” designation.

Now, shoppers can choose the same body style with either gas or electric powertrains. The 2027 GLC can be had in AMG GLC 53 4Matic form or in full battery-electric GLC 400 4 Matic Electric, for now. A higher performance AMG GLC 63 is expected, as is a base GLC 300 with a turbocharged 4-cylinder.
