2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe First Look

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe comes to us all-new for the 2027 model year as an electric powerhouse, rides on the AMG.EA architecture, and gets many Mercedes-AMG firsts.

Two Better Than One

There will be two variants of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe available. Both are powered by three all-new axial flux motors. No, not a flux capacitor, but it feels as though we’re getting closer to it. Both the Mercedes-AMG GT 55 4-Door Coupe and the 63 4-Door Coupe get a single motor up front and two motors coupled by a planetary gear on the rear axle. Both will go head-to-head against Porsche’s formidable Taycan.

The former variant, the 55, will achieve 805 horsepower, while the 63 will top out at 1,153 hp and be able to reach 60 mph from a standstill in 2.1 seconds. It will punch 124 mph in about the time it takes an average luxury SUV to do half that. This motor setup could be capable of up to 1,300 hp in the future, but let’s hope Mercedes-AMG never unleashes that on the public.

With its new Formula 1-derived battery technology, the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe possesses a massive 800-volt lithium-ion battery with 600-kW charging capacity, meaning you could hit just shy of 300 miles of range in 10 minutes. Finding a charger that can handle that capacity in the United States might be a trick.

An advanced cooling system utilizing direct oil cooling and an intricate battery management system to maintain ideal temperatures and enable prolonged and repeatable performance driving.

The Promise Is in the Premise

Mercedes-AMG promises many driving innovations to make the road experience truly electric. An available AMG Race Engineer control unit allows the driver to customize their driving experience. From throttle response, ride, traction, steering, and handling, drivers should be able to transform the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door from a comfortable road dweller to a track beast with the push of a button.

In addition to the car’s feel, Mercedes-AMG introduces its new AMGFORCE Sport+ drive program, which is said to deliver not only an authentic-sounding V8 exhaust note but also an immersive simulated gear-shifting experience. Available drive modes include Comfort, Sport, AMGFORCE Sport+, Race, Slippery, Eco, and Individual.

Innovative aerodynamics, including the optional AEROKINETICS Venturi Flow and active rear diffuser, should help keep that monster power firmly planted on the road.

Magic Carpet Ride

AMG’s Ride Control+ air suspension comes standard, and AMG’s Active Ride Control is available on the AMG GT 55 and standard on the AMG GT 63. And for our money, let’s just call it a magic carpet, because that’s how these AMG triple-adjustable air springs feel. They can be set for stability and comfort, depending on the desired driving experience. You can even change the car’s ride height for easier ingress and egress as you board or disembark your rocket ship.

The chassis supports a multi-link suspension set up on both the front and the rear, with aluminum components including links, steering knuckles, and uprights. Rear steering up to 6 degrees will improve stability and maneuverability.

Both Mercedes-AMG 4-Door Coupes come with the Mercedes 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system, offering even more control. Its standard carbon ceramic brakes should do a fine job in stopping all this flux.

What We Know About the Interior

Massive screens stretch across the entire dash, including a 14-inch multimedia display with a 14-inch passenger screen. A 10.2-inch driver display merges into one contiguous screen. No, the windshield is not a screen, for now. Rotary controls for the AMG Race Engineer are oriented toward the driver. Dual charging pads accommodate both the driver’s and passenger’s phones.

Second row seating only accommodates two people with contoured bucket seats that should hold you in if Mom or Dad are driving you to soccer practice a bit too swiftly. If you option Sky Control, then your panoramic roof transforms into a light show, cue the Pink Floyd now. Pair that with the ambient lighting design and you can transport yourself back to the laser shows of the go-go ‘80s.

The new-generation Mercedes’ MBUX system integrates AI from ChatGPT to enhance the voice-activated experience. We are looking forward to seeing if this functionality improves search results and in-car commands. For performance driving, AMG Track Pace will record lap and sector times, as well as offer professional training and driving analysis tools.

The 2026 Mercedes-AMG GT 55 4-Door Coupe arrives at dealers later in 2026, while the GT 63 4-Door Coupe becomes available in early 2027. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
