  • 2027 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk gets new Hurricane turbocharged 4-cylinder powertrain
  • Trailhawk’s Trail Rated features include class-leading ground clearance and 4×4 capability
  • 2027 Grand Cherokee Overland combines refined styling and off-road proficiency

For the 2026 model year, Jeep gave its Grand Cherokee a few interior and exterior upgrades, along with one major powertrain addition: the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder Hurricane engine. For the 2027 model year, Jeep introduces two additional, if familiar, trims: Trailhawk and Overland.

Trail Rated

The 324 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque the new 4-cylinder Hurricane produces will propel you over hill and dale in the 2027 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. This trim should be familiar to Jeep enthusiasts as the most capable of all Grand Cherokee offerings. In addition to the new engine, which produces more power than the base model Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 and its 295 hp, buyers get some off-road must-haves to get any job done on dirt.

Jeep includes its Quadra-Trac II 4×4 system, which gives this midsize optional 3-row SUV a transfer case and more grunt for off-the-beaten-path duties. It gets a Rock mode to utilize that low-end torque, and trail seekers get the Quadra-Lift air suspension with an active damping system to make smooth work of the big bumps.

With 11.4 inches of ground clearance, 30.5-inch all-terrain Goodyear tires, and six steel skid plates protecting your transmission, fuel tank, and engine, you can steer quite clear of any obstacles trying to ruin your good time. A 6,200-pound towing capacity makes hauling toys on your adventures easier.

Interior Details

Distinctive styling and badging remind you you’re driving a capable off-road vehicle. From the Granite Crystal off-road wheels to dark metallic exterior accents to the Nappa leather interior with red stitching, getting out on dirt still looks trail chic. Red signature tow hooks, a glare-resistant hood decal, and Jeep’s infamous Trailhawk badges remind everyone else you’re not messing around, either.

Of course, you’ll get the latest tech that the Grand Cherokee has to offer, including a 12.3-inch infotainment display. That incorporates Jeep’s comprehensive Off-Road Pages, which offer driving details such as pitch and roll angles, vehicle dynamics, and suspension settings. Buyers also get the TrailCam that shows you where you’re placing your tires and features a rear camera washer for après mud-puddling.

Chic and Cheeky

The Grand Cherokee’s Overland trim can still get you off the pavement, but with a bit more style than the Trailhawk’s gritty substance. Interior features include Nappa leather with “Overland” embossed on the headrest and a heated seat for under your posterior.

On the exterior, 21-inch machined-face wheels, bright tow hooks, and Silver Silk accents adorn the Overland. It also wears a more aggressive front fascia, distinguishing it from the other Grand Cherokee models.

Jeep’s Quadra-Lift air suspension makes for a quiet and luxurious ride, even on the bumpy stuff. Drivers also have low gearing available with the Quadra-Trac II 4×4 transfer case. Hill-descent control, Jeep’s off-road pages, and a semi-active damping system round out the Overland’s capability portfolio.

Both Trailhawk and Overland are produced out of Stellantis’ Detroit Assembly Complex in Mack, Michigan. Pricing and delivery details will be available later this year.
