The Honda Civic Type R returns for the 2027 model year with a handful of meaningful improvements aimed at making it more comfortable and quicker around a circuit. The car arrives in late October with an updated suspension system, revised styling, and improved braking feel, among other upgrades.

Pricing for the 2027 Honda Civic Type R starts at $49,990, including a $1,295 destination charge. There aren’t many add-on options available to increase that price, but premium paint is a $455 upgrade. The new price reflects a $1,300 increase over the 2026 model’s base price of $48,690, after destination charge.

The Type R’s powertrain doesn’t change, but Honda updated the suspension with new damping settings in the +R driving mode, which it says reduces bouncing and harshness. Honda’s hottest hatchback will continue to employ a 315-horsepower turbo 4-cylinder engine, and the sole transmission remains a 6-speed manual. Downshifting will also be more rewarding in 2027, thanks to a revised rev-matching system that reduces engine response time. Honda also added a yoke spring to the brake pedal to improve pedal feel.

Styling updates include a more aggressive front end and splitter. The new setup boosts aerodynamic downforce and airflow for better cooling and grip at higher speeds, according to Honda. Four colors are available for the model year: the new Meteorite Gray Metallic, Boost Blue Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl, and Championship White.

Inside, the Type R gains heated front seats for the first time, addressing one of the most prominent complaints about its interior comfort. The seats themselves are upgraded with a new suede-like upholstery design and black accent stripes. Honda also installs Ultrasuede on the upper gauge cluster and door panels to reduce interior glare.

Google built-in graces the Type R’s infotainment system for the first time, bringing Google Gemini AI assistant, Google Maps, and some Play Store features along with it. The car also gains two USB-C charging ports for the front seats, and will come standard with wireless phone charging.

While it’s considerably quicker than the standard Civic, the Type R still offers a range of standard driver-assistance features. The Honda Sensing package includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and more.
