2027 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Is the Cheapest Way to 200 mph

The 2027 Chevrolet Corvette driving

The eighth-generation Chevrolet Corvette is a performance bargain, outgunning cars costing two or three times more, but the 2027 model takes that ethos to a new level. Chevy says the new Corvette Stingray sports car now offers a 200 mph top speed, and the best part is that it’s the base model delivering those numbers.

Beyond the blistering top speed, the Stingray’s $73,495 price tag buys a car with a 2.8-second zero-to-60 mph time and an 11.0-second quarter-mile run. Mike Kociba, GM’s small block assistant chief engineer, said, “That’s all power. The record really shows the strength of the LS6, an engine that we set out to create a unique place in the Corvette lineup.”

The C8 Stingray’s new 6.7-liter V8 makes 535 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque on a 13.0:1 compression ratio. The previous car’s 6.2-liter LT2 V8 made 490 hp and 465 lb-feet of torque, still impressive but significantly short of the new numbers.

Beyond the power and displacement bump, the Stingray’s more basic body shape contributes to its top speed numbers. It has a narrower body than the Z06 or ZR1, and its lack of super-aggressive aerodynamic bodywork gives it less drag, enabling it to reach 200 mph. Adding the optional Z51 performance package actually cuts the car’s top speed, though Chevy didn’t say by how much.

These numbers make the 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray the cheapest car available with a 200-mph ability. Interestingly, General Motors offers the two cheapest 200-mph cars, with the other being the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing. The 2027 Corvette is on sale now.
