We’re not quite ready to apologize for criticizing Toyota’s torturously long rollout of teasers for the 2024 Toyota Tacoma pickup. But we’re feeling slightly contrite this morning because the latest Tacoma teaser has us happy.
The 2024 Tacoma will be available with a 6-speed manual transmission.
That revelation is the latest in a long series of short reveals thin on details. Toyota will reveal an all-new version of America’s best-selling midsize truck soon, we hope. The company hasn’t put a date on the new Tacoma’s arrival. But it has dripped out teasers indicating that:
- The next Tacoma will look boxier and bulkier than the current model
- It will be available with a hybrid powertrain
- Toyota will build an off-road specialist Trailhunter edition
- It has wheels
- It will feature a removable Bluetooth speaker
Toyota today added a photo of three alloy pedals to the list of teasers. The Tacoma is one of just two pickups on the market in 2023 available with a stick shift (The Jeep Gladiator is the other).
That’s all we know for now. And we hope it’s the last teaser because six weeks of tiny details are enough to lose anyone’s interest, even if the last of them is something that has fans.
We should note, however, that the previous teasers have tended to come out on Tuesdays. So odds are we’ll get another next Tuesday, whether it’s the full truck or just a photograph of a gas cap. Yes, Toyota is making a Taco Tuesday joke. Maybe now that we’ve acknowledged it in print, they can stop and just give us what we all want.
