2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Gets Price Cut, Range Boost; Orders Open Now

2022 Ford Mustang Mach-EFord has cut prices on its Mustang Mach-E electric SUV by as much as $4,000 and introduced new batteries that improve range and charging times.

Ford has split Mach-E production into two waves for 2023. The second wave of orders has begun, with Ford accepting reservations today. The company says it has upgraded its factory to produce more of the vehicles in the second half of the year.

The Mach-E is an all-electric SUV known for its sporty looks and generous list of standard equipment. It borrows much of its name from Ford’s iconic Mustang muscle car. But the electric version is a 4-door crossover, available with all-wheel drive and up to 480 horsepower.

Our expert test drivers have criticized its slow recharging speeds. Ford must have been listening. The company this week announced that 2023 Mustang Mach-E models will use new lithium iron phosphate batteries. The new battery tech adds 45 horsepower to the eAWD configuration and improves targeted EPA ranges for most trim levels. It also boosts charging speeds.

At the sort of DC fast chargers often found beside highway routes, Ford says the batteries can now charge from 10% to 80% in 33 minutes – 5 minutes faster than 2022 models.

Many automakers use software to prevent owners from charging batteries to 100% of their capacity because doing so is bad for battery life. But that means owners can’t rely on the advertised range of their new EVs.

With the new batteries, Ford says, “standard range models can now charge to 100% more frequently.” The automaker offers no further details, so we assume battery management software still won’t allow it every time.

For also charges a $1,800 destination fee on all Mustang Mach-E models. The Mach-E is one of the few EVs to survive a recent culling of federal EV tax credits. Most buyers (depending on income) qualify for a $3,750 federal tax credit on Mach-E purchases.
