The popular Nissan Pathfinder is all new for 2022 but it hasn’t left its rugged roots behind. Through the years, the Pathfinder has gone from rough and tumble to roomy and refined. Now in its fifth generation, it offers 3-row seating for up to eight passengers.
The Pathfinder sports a rugged exterior and decent off-road capabilities when equipped with 4-wheel drive. But at the end of the day, it’s still a family-friendly crossover with modern safety tech and features like a removable second-row center console.

V6 Power
The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder comes with one engine, a 3.5-liter V6 making 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque. The Pathfinder dispenses with the former Xtronic CVT transmission, replacing it with a conventional 9-speed automatic. It’s much smoother and inspires more confidence. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is a $1,900 option. When equipped with the tow package option, its maximum towing capacity is 6,000 pounds.
Four Trims
The Pathfinder is available in four trim levels starting with the base S model. Stepping up the ladder brings the SV, SL, and top-line Platinum trim. The base S model includes the NissanConnect system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, plus the Nissan Safety Shield 360 safety suite.
The mid-level SV adds the ProPilot Assist semi-autonomous driving system which couples with adaptive cruise control and steering assist to make highway driving easier. Also included are a Wi-Fi hotspot and NissanConnect Services powered by SiriusXM.
The SL upgrades the touchscreen to a 9-inch display with wireless Apple CarPlay, while Android Auto still requires a wire connection. This model also includes Nissan’s Intelligent Around View Monitor. Pathfinder Platinum boasts a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, 10.8-inch head-up display, wireless charging pad, and leather seating surfaces.
Passenger Room and Comfort
Family-friendly, the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder offers roomy 3-row seating, and for the first time, available second-row captain’s chairs for a 2-2-3 seating configuration. With the standard bench seat in place, the configuration grows to 2-3-3 for a total of eight passengers.
The second-row seating has a one-touch release allowing it to fold and slide for access to the third row. In the wayback, there’s enough space for a 120-quart cooler or four golf bags. Fold both rows forward and the cargo area can load 4×8 sheets of plywood with ease.
Features and Tech
The Pathfinder includes a spacious interior with more technology than the previous version. Start off with an available 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and an available 10.8-inch head-up display to see speed, navigation, and more. An 8.0-inch display is standard and can be replaced with an available 9.0-inch touchscreen on the center console. A bridge console offers storage space below.
Audiophiles can take advantage of the available Bose Premium Audio system with 13 speakers and SiriusXM radio. It also boasts available Nissan Door-to-Door navigation and a new wide-view digital Intelligent Around View Monitor. This new system includes higher-definition screens than the previous analog version.
The Platinum grade adds the new ProPILOT Assist with Navi-link. The system links the two features, which can automatically reduce speeds for upcoming curves or junctions and help the driver slow for freeway exits.
